About the Community
Canyon Lake is a private, gated community located halfway between Lake Elsinore and Sun City, California. With a current population just over 11,000 residents, this recreation oriented community also has the distinction of being a fully governed city.
While the city is small, it is one of the most unique because it is one of the five gated cities in all of California. Within its borders lie Canyon Lake reservoir with 15 miles of winding shoreline, campgrounds, parks, and residential communities.
About the Fire Department
Canyon Lake has about 800 emergency incidents per year, an average of just over two emergency responses per day, the statement said. Of those, approximately 80% are medical related and the city sees an average of about four to six structure fires a year.
The city’s new fire department launched Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, after decades of contracting with Riverside County for fire protection.
The Canyon Lake Fire Department will include three fire engines, two chief command vehicles, and 12 full-time personnel — including a fire chief, battalion chief, three captains, three engineers, three firefighter-paramedics and administrative staff.
Two of the three fire engines are new, one for structure fires and one for wildland fires, officials said. The city already owns the fire engine and equipment at the former Riverside County Station 60, which will be renamed Canyon Lake Station 1. A new sign will be installed at the building on Vacation Drive on Monday, Jan. 3.
