Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Science at Western

The Department of Philosophy at Western University (The University of Western Ontario) invites applications or nominations for the Rotman Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Philosophy of Science. This position will build on Western’s record of research excellence in this field. We are seeking an innovative leader and exceptional scholar in any area of philosophy of science, broadly construed. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced individuals who are recognized internationally as leaders in their field and who are currently at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor (or equivalent). Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position will be full time, and tenured at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, in the Department of Philosophy, or as a joint appointment with Philosophy and another department, as appropriate. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a vigorous research program, and to contribute to teaching and supervising undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. The position will commence on July 1, 2017 or as negotiated.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the intellectual leadership of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy. Founded in 2008, the Rotman Institute has become a leading center for philosophical work engaging with the sciences. The Rotman Institute’s vision is to make progress on foundational and socially relevant questions based on collaborations bridging philosophy, the sciences, and society. Institute faculty lead research projects in ethics and science, foundations of physics, philosophy of mind and neuroscience, and ecological philosophy.

With a full-time enrollment of 32,000, Western University is a leading research-intensive university with a full range of academic and professional programs, situated on one of Canada’s most beautiful campuses.
