In an interview Thursday, Nancy Beauchamp, Montreal national director of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, reported that the situation has “improved” a lot in the past few days.
She expects the situation to return within the next two weeks.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and containment, which has boosted online shopping, Canada Post has found itself with a significant increase in the number of packages to be delivered.
In early June, the union reported that packages stacked in 320 trailers were waiting to be processed, only in Montreal. M me Beauchamp is talking today about 80 trailers.
She attributes the decrease in delays to several factors, including the reopening of storefront businesses, the hiring of temporary employees and the authorization of overtime by employees.
When asked to provide an update, Canada Post management had not yet made their comments known at the time of writing.
