I can never manage to go more than 10 minutes without spilling, dropping or splattering something on myself when I wear white - but knock yourself out if you want to because it's official: SUMMER IS HERE! Great things are happening in June at the Dallas Zoo. Pack up the family and plan to have family date night at Safari Nights presented by TXU Energy.
Every Saturday in June (and July), the Dallas Zoo will host a series of evening concerts. The concerts will feature live music, extended hours (until 9 p.m.) and a chance to mingle with some of the (animal) stars of the Zoo. Special events, from animal presentations to a SOAR, A Festival of Flight bird show, begin at 5 p.m. The music starts at 7 p.m.

The Dallas Marathon organization announced registration is now open for the Kickoff Run and Epic 80’s Party Presented by Miller Lite, a fun run scheduled for National Running Day on Wednesday, June 4.
The 4.4K fun run, celebrating the 44th running of the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, will be held at Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake and will kick off registration season for the 2014 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, Half Marathon, 5-Person Relay, SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge presented by Behringer and Cigna Mayor’s Race 5K Presented by Oncor. The event will feature entertainment for participants including: Post-race party with free beer, Live music from the band Live 80, Dallas’ popular 80s cover band, 80s-themed costume contest, Food trucks

One Arts Plaza is pleased to host One by One, an InstaDFW exhibit featuring the best local and national mobile photographers. The pieces will be on display from through June 22 and a silent auction of all pieces will be held during the exhibit timeframe with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Dallas Arts District and TACA (The Arts Community Alliance).

Ink Master’s Oliver Peck (Elm Street Tattoo) and The Reverend Horton Heat host the second annual Elm Street Music & Tattoo Festival, June 11-15, in Deep Ellum. This five-day fête features over 50 bands including headliners Black Flag, Lucero, MXPX, Teenage Bottlerocket, Ishi, Brutal Juice, The Reverend and more, plus a convention of over 40 tattoo artists from around the world participating in a Friday the 13th Marathon.
Participating music venues include Trees, Three Links, Dada, and Wits End. The tattoo convention, to be held at Prophet Bar, will begin at 12 Midnight on Thursday, June 12, exclusively tatting only “13” designs for 24 hours. The tattoo convention continues Saturday, June 14, 4pm – 12am, and Sunday, June 15, 12pm – 9pm. The Lone Star Music Series at Lone Star Park will “rock-on” with a performance by .38 Special on Saturday, June 7th. .38 Special is an original 80’s Southern Rock band featuring many Platinum and Gold award-winning songs. On Monday, June 9, Chef Alex Stupak of the James Beard Award nominated Empellón Cocina in New York City, and Damian Higgins, better known as Dieselboy, will unite with Chef Matt McCallister to present a nine-course menu, showcasing each of their unique culinary talents.

On Saturday, June 14, the Volunteer Center of North Texas takes over Klyde Warren Deck Park to introduce VOLY.org and kick-off the largest volunteer recruitment drive in the organization’s history.
VOLY.ORG is a new social website that connects volunteers and organizations in North Texas. Come celebrate, sign up, and make a real difference! TITAS presents Shen Way Dance Arts on Thursday, June 19 (8pm) at the Winspear Opera House. Internationally recognized for the breadth and scope of his artistic vision, Shen Wei is a prolific choreographer and stage director; set, costume, lighting and make-up designer; painter; and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known as the lead choreographer for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which won worldwide acclaim.
