I sure did moisturize my belly during both my pregnancies and I didn't get one single stretch mark. But as most of you pregnant ladies and mothers out there probably know, there is no real evidence that moisturizing the belly actually prevents stretch marks. Apparently it's your genes that decide how it's going to be, or the size of your pre-pregnancy belly in relation to the size of your belly during pregnancy. If you were a really small person before you became pregnant and your skin stretched a lot during the growth of your belly there is a risk that you get them. Despite the lack of evidence, why take the risk? It can hardly be bad for you so why not, I reasoned. Also, it's rather nice to touch your baby bump gently every day, in a sense you feel closer to your baby growing inside of you.
When I was pregnant I didn't want to expose my unborn child to any dangerous chemicals. I did some research and found a really good natural alternative to use on my belly - Almond oil. Now, there are both expensive and cheap products on the market. I used a cheap 100% natural alternative, free from perfume and preservatives, which I bought at the pharmacy for less than five dollars.
I continue to moisturize my belly with almond oil every single day since I believe that it helps my stretched skin to shrink back to its old size.
