Padaviya Irrigation Engineer Champa Kasturiarachchi has requested Anuradhapura District Irrigation Director S. Amediwaka to send a team of Mechanical Engineers of the Irrigation Department to conduct an inspection to ascertain whether any damage has been caused to the sluice gate of the Padaviya Reservoir, when it was recently opened forcibly by a group using a high-powered jack to obtain water for a paddy field owned by a businessman in the area.
Authorities have also estimated that the loss incurred due to obtaining water illegally amounts to Rs.300,000 and have submitted the relevant assessment report to the Police to be produced in Court.
The suspects arrested in connection with forcibly opening a sluice gate of Padaviya Reservoir, using a high-powered jack used for large vehicles and obtaining water for a paddy field owned by a businessman in the area have been ordered to appear in Court on Wednesday.
