California Ballot Proposal to Require Parental Notification for Abortion Fizzles

Of course it does. Too many commies in California.

From the Sacramento Bee: The campaign to qualify a November constitutional amendment requiring parental notification for abortions ended last week, the latest in a string of ballot failures for the effort’s sponsors.

In a statement on its website, Californians for Parental Rights said “insufficient signatures were gathered before the March 15 deadline to qualify the California Parental Notification Constitutional Amendment initiative” for the fall ballot. Proponents needed to turn in 585,407 valid voter signatures.

California voters have rejected parental notification measures several times since 2000. Proponents had contributed more than $1.3 million toward making another attempt this fall and spent at least $450,000 through December on signature gathering, state filings show.

The largest donors to the campaign were Domino’s Pizza Founder Tom Monaghan, who gave $650,000, and James Holman, the editor of the San Diego Reader, who donated $590,000, including $400,000 in January.
