Do you remember a post I wrote two weeks ago about Hugo Schwyzer, a professor of history and gender studies at Pasadena City College (PCC) in southern California, who announced he’s taking a leave of absence from PCC to enter psychological rehab because of too much stress?
Schwyzer earned the nickname Porn Professor for “teaching” a course on pornography. The “Navigating Pornography” course garnered national headlines after Campus Reform reported on a public lecture Schwyzer had organized in February with James Deen, perhaps the biggest “star” in the porn industry.
Schwyzer blames his stress on all the criticisms he’s received for the porn course. But the “psychological rehab” he supposedly entered clearly isn’t working.
Josiah Ryan reports for Campus Reform, that on Aug. 8, 2013, the porn prof unleashed a barrage of more than 130 Tweets, saying he had planned to have sex with James Deen in front of his class during the porn star’s February 27 visit to the “Navigating Pornography” class.
Schwyzer tweeted:
“Yes, I wanted to have my students watch me screw James Deen.”
Earlier this month, Schwyzer announced he had cancelled the controversial “Navigating Pornography” class for the fall to take a leave of absence and enter psychological rehab because of the negative media attention his class garnered.
Among his barrage of tweets, the porn prof also claimed he had successfully used classroom invitations to bed porn stars in the past: “I fucked porn stars I met through my classes.”
Schwyzer also confessed to sexting another porn star, having sexual relations with his female students, and sometimes having sex in order to gain promotion at the college: “Sometimes, I fucked my way into a gig.”
Schwyzer offered the disclaimer that the tweets were the product of a “manic episode” he was experiencing: “Let me be clear: I have a serious mental illness. But that is an explanation, not an excuse, for the harm I’ve inflicted.”
William E. Thompson
PCC administrators, while condemning some of Schwyzer’s actions, refuse to fire him.
The Pasadena Star News reported that PCC Trustee William E. Thomson said this is “clearly not the type of conduct we want from any of our professors or faculty. It’s unlike Mr. [Anthony] Wiener where he has to face the electorate. We face a number of lawful constraints in what we can do.”

The point is that I’m sui generis. I’m not symptomatic of a problem in feminism, I’m a reminder of what manipulative mentally ill can do.
Hugo Schwyzer @hugoschwyzer 12 Aug
I know many of my former friends feel deeply betrayed. I am sorry. The dishonesty/manipulativeness is in my nature, embedded.
Hugo Schwyzer @hugoschwyzer 12 Aug
It’s ridonkulous that editors should have been able to guess at my nature and intent. I’m borderline sociopathic with talent for duplicity
Higher Education is so edifying!
