Caleb’s been building me a bike on the sly for weeks. By Sunday morning, he couldn’t keep it a secret any longer, so he gave it to me. NOW I HAVE NO SURPRISES LEFT FOR TOMORROW. That’s ok, I told him that all I want to do on my birthday is sleep late, eat a breakfast sandwich, and go see Anna Karenina.
But back to the bike—I think it’s the most beautiful one I’ve ever seen! I went out in the hallways no less than 4 times this morning just to look at it. I haven’t felt this way about a present since I’ve been a little girl. I’m the luckiest lady in the whole world, seriously.
I have a lot more to write, but I have a few pressing deadlines. I’ll be back in the afternoon. In the meantime, read Camille Paglia’s defense of the Real Housewives franchise, most of which I fervently agree with. I would only add that whoever edits these shows are geniuses, almost on the level of great novelists. More on that later.Â
