CAA Raids Conducted, Egg Traders Fined Rs.900,000

The Consumer Affairs Authority stated that the Angunakolapelassa Court has imposed Rs.900,000 on nine traders who sold eggs beyond the maximum retail price, subsequent to the Consumer Affairs  Authority arresting them and producing them in court. Nearly 376 raids have been conducted across the country regarding the sale of eggs at higher prices and raids and prosecutions against traders who sell eggs at higher prices and hide eggs are still ongoing throughout the island.

An individual business found guilty of selling eggs over the maximum retail price will be fined between one hundred to five hundred thousand rupees and a company will be fined from Rs.500,000 to 5 million.
