Police said that the person named Mangala Gunawardena, an owner of several business enterprises in Kandy had shot himself dead using his personal firearm.
The shooting had taken place yesterday at his office located on the upper floor of a three-storied building, belonging to him, in the Digana town.The businessman had been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital in a critical condition, after the incident but had succumbed to injuries.
This businessman had owned several enterprises in Kandy, Pallekelle, Digana,Teldeniya several cities in the country. During police investigations it has been revealed that he owned vehicle sales outlets, pawning and mortgage centers, furniture businesses,various trade agencies as well as a number of other large-scale businesses.
The deceased businessman had been involved in lending money and earning interest.He had maintained several offices in Digana and Teldeniya for his business work.
Don Rajeewa Mangala Gunawardena, this 54-year-old businessman had been known by the alias Digana-Mangala as well.
He owned several buildings in Kandy and it is known that some of them had been obtained because people had been unable to pay back their mortgages.The Pallekelle police is carrying out further investigations into the incident.
