Businessman Arrested at BIA with Foreign Cigarettes Worth Rs. 2mn

A large consignment of foreign cigarettes worth approximately two million rupees has been impounded by the officers of Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

A businessman, 31, was arrested for attempting to smuggle in the contraband.

He had arrived at the BIA from Muscat in Oman via Oman Air flight OV-437.

The PNB officers found 100 cartons containing 20,000 sticks of foreign cigarettes in the luggage belonging to the said businessman.

The businessman has been detained for further interrogations.
