Business traveling to meetings for work is impacting on the mental and physical health of UK workers, according to a new report.

Capita Travel and Events has published 'The unnoticed impact of business travel', which explores the attitudes of employees who regularly need to travel as part of their job.

The report reveals how one in six UK workers say that they struggle with their mental health when business travelling to and from meetings. That figure rises to almost one in five (19%) when just looking at the opinions of 25-34-year-olds.

It isn't just mental health, either. Capita's report also puts the spotlight on the poor habits travelling workers slip into which also have a negative effect on their physical health.

Indeed, almost half of all people who travel for business meetings (47%) end up resorting to getting a takeaway for their evening meal.

Capita Travel and Events behavioral psychologist Jonti Dalal-Small said: "People try to make it easier on themselves by picking up a takeaway, because when you're tired and hungry after a long day you want it to be easy. If you're eating takeaway for a long while it's going to affect you. Your decision making could be impacted by a lack of good food and sleep, you're more likely to make choices you wouldn't have made otherwise."

In total 14% say both their physical and mental health suffers when travel for business meeting.
