Burns Supper at The Trading House, Glasgow

Celebrating Burns Night at The Trading House, Glasgow

At the end of last year, The Trading House in Glasgow opened its doors and we had a peek in on one of their media days (check it out here). We were invited back to try out their Hanging Haggis Kebab for Burns Night and with Mr Foodies love of haggis as well as being intrigued by how it would hang, we ventured along.

The interior of the larger eating area at the rear has been given a bit of a makeover with some driftwood and flotsam additions to the lighting and ceiling, creating a more cosy feel.

To honor Rabbie, The Trading House have created two cocktails.

Red Red Rose £6.95 Whisky,  Rose liqueur and Grenadine plus a Pure and Simple Burns £7.50 Blended whisky, Vermouth, Lemon and Cloves.  Both went down a treat.  The Red Red Rose being a sweet tasting, delicate number with the Pure and Simple Burns like a chilled hot toddy, it packs a punch.
Basket of Wings with chipotle creme fraiche had a good kick, juicy meat and a finger licking tasty.

Mrs Foodie is a sucker for prawn cocktail so just had to have this.  Dainty prawns in a zingy coating accompanied by some Thai crackers.  A bigger portion would have went down better, however a tasty starter.

It wasn’t long until we saw the Hanging Haggis. It definitely was hanging!

Haggis Kebab  £12.95 / 50% off if booked through link These were like little Dutch croquettes (Kroketten) A crisp coating filled with haggis.  The haggis was a little chewy but flavoursome and not fatty.  Even Mrs Foodie ate them all up, and she’s a bit of a huffy haggis eater.  We had no idea lemon juice went with haggis , but it did.  Creamy mash doused in a peppery whisky sauce kept the prospect of dry croquettes at bay.

Did we have room for pudding? Of course we did!

Sticky toffee pudding for Mr Foodie, was sweet, sticky, gooey and with a dollop of ice-cream.

Trifle Sundae.  Blackcurrant jelly topped with custard and real whipped cream, none of this canned stuff.  Topped with fresh strawberries.  Delicious.

The dinner was accompanied by some lovely music, an excellent beer selection and helpful staff.

TL;DR

+The haggis and creamy mash

+ Beer selection is worth a trip in itself

-Bigger prawn cocktail portion please!

The Trading House are offering 50% off this January – more details HERE.

Fred sez his mom and dad were honest and thank The Trading House for inviting them along.
