POSITION SUMMARY:Supervises and assigns the work of the building/fire plan review staff.  Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; performs the more technical and complex tasks associated with review of building construction and site development plans for compliance with the adopted codes and standards for structural, building, fire & life safety, and accessibility.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance management plans.*
  • Participates in the selection of assigned staff; provides or coordinates staff training; and works with employees to correct deficiencies. *
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing diverse services; identifies resources needed; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; and allocates resources accordingly.*
  • Provides leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer-service oriented work environment that supports the department and County mission, objectives and values. *
  • Participates in the development of program budget, forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; and recommends budgetary adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.*
  • Performs the more technical and complex assessment of building plans, site plans, and fire protection system plans for compliance with building code, fire code and life safety criteria; and serves as a technical resource to staff.*
  • Provides information on code application, code interpretation and internal office procedures to Permitting and Inspections staff and Fire Rescue division personnel.
  • Coordinates plan review information with County staff and departments, Fire Prevention Bureau, State Fire Marshal’s Office, local utilities, and other concerned parties.*
  • Reviews applicable codes and recommends changes and revisions as necessary.*
  • Refers complaints regarding code violations and unsafe structures to Code Compliance and Fire Rescue division personnel.
  • Receives and responds to requests for information, complaints, interpretation of code requirements, and technical assistance from architects, engineers and developers and other concerned parties
  • Attends meetings with architects, engineers, developers and owners to discuss plan review procedures and comments. *
  • Prepares and maintains necessary reports, records and other related documents.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Science, Fire Science Technology, or related field; four years of experience in commercial plan review, fire protection engineering technology, fire prevention service, architectural technology, building design and construction, commercial field inspection or a related field.  Must have two of the following: ICC Building Plans Examiner, ICC Fire Plans Examiner, NFPA Certified Plan Examiner or ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Annual Range: $46,928 – $72,739
