At HiiKER, we’ve been on a mission for the past four years: to help people plan and navigate their hikes through some of the world’s most beautiful wilderness. Along the way, one thing has become crystal clear — we’re obsessed with maps.
Not just any maps, but topographic hiking maps.
It started with the classics: OS Mapping in the UK, a staple for hikers and hillwalkers. Soon after, we brought in Harvey Maps, an independent mapping company from Scotland beloved by outdoor enthusiasts.
And then the idea hit us.
That’s how the concept of the Global Hiking Map — or as we like to call it, the GLOOOOBO MAP — was born.
How It Works
The process is a little like solving a giant jigsaw puzzle:
- We start with beautifully detailed print maps crafted by expert cartographers.
- We digitise them, piece by piece.
- Then, we stitch them together into a seamless experience that transitions naturally from one region to the next.
The result? A map that feels handcrafted by decades of cartographic expertise, yet accessible instantly in the palm of your hand.
Our Progress So Far
We’ve made some exciting strides on this global mission:
But we’re just getting started. The vision is to bring every great hiking map together, creating the ultimate resource for explorers everywhere.
A Nerdy Collection (With a Twist)
Think of it as collecting Pokémon — except instead of Pikachu, we’re chasing down the world’s rarest and most loved hiking maps.
(Yes, we may have ended one of our updates with a “Who’s that Pokémon?” meme revealing Purple Lizard. Because why not?)
What’s Next?
That’s where you come in. We want to know: which maps should we add next?
Drop your suggestions in the comments, and join us on this journey as we continue to build the world’s first truly global hiking map.
Until then — happy hiking!
