Bugbear Inc, the creator of “Flatout” demolition derby-style racing games recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their latest game “The Next Car Game,” hoping to develop the game for next-gen consoles. But, now with less than 5 days to go, the developer team has cancelled its’ Kickstarter campaign as a result of not meeting the required funding goal.
The Next Car Game Kickstarter goal was $350,000. At the time of the project cancellation, $81,772 was pledged thanks to 2,487 backers. Collecting nearly $300k within five days would take a miracle and I don’t blame Bugbear for pulling off the campaign.
“Although our Kickstarter campaign has attracted tremendous enthusiasm, during the last couple of weeks it’s become obvious that we are not going to meet our goal,” Bugbear stated on Kickstarter. “Because of this we have decided concentrate on our efforts on the pre-order campaign.”

Despite this unexpected turn of events, the game will still arrive for PC gamers and to thank the supporters of this campaign, Bubear has released a “playable technology sneak peek” to all the pre-ordered gamers. Although, it’s unclear if they would make the game available for consoles now as it was the sole purpose of this failed Kickstarter campaign.
I have contacted Bugbear to learn about how this decision affect the future plans of this game. I will update this post as soon as I get a response.
