Kepos Street Kitchen, Redfern
Kepos Street Kitchen, Redfern
Tucked away on the corner of the quiet streets of Redfern is this hip cafe. Unfortunately for breakfast, you can't book so you will need to either arrive early to avoid the queues or queue up for approximately 30 minutes. Given you have the spare time, it isn't a bad place if you are picking or dropping someone off at the airport either as it is only minutes away.
Soft baked eggs and tomato shakshuka, coriander and sourdough - $15
dad's favourite breaky: falafel, hummus, labneh, dukkah, egg and tomato salad - $16
Normally baked eggs are my usual favourite at most cafes but the dad's favourite breaky was even better. The falafel covered in quinoa was like a healthy version of a hash brown. The quinoa on the outside was extra crunchy and the falafel was soft and warm. I could eat this for breakfast every day of the week especially since quinoa is good for you right? Sadly the tomatoes in the baked eggs made it too sour for my liking and my eggs weren't as runny as I would have liked it. It's okay though because my dad's favourite breaky still had eggs! I was still winning.Pho Toan Thang Restaurant, Flemington
Pho Toan Thang Restaurant
As some of you guys know, Strathfield is my second home and Pho Toan Thang in Flemington is right next door. This is probably the most popular pho place in Flemington. There is always a line every time I walk past this place but luckily, the lines aren't too horrendous and it is about a 5 to 10 minute wait.
Combination rice with grilled pork - approx $10
Special beef combination, large - approx $10
When it comes to lunch and no matter how cold or hot the day is, there will always be a small spot in my heart for a bowl of comfort. I don't know what it is about pho but it simply so comforting. When you aren't feeling 100% or when your sinuses aren't working, a bowl of pho always seems to fix everything up. Would you agree? And the best thing about pho is that it is ridiculously cheap for it's serving so you never have to worry about making a dent to your bank account.
Mary's, Newtown
One of the places that keeps flooding my instagram feed is Mary's I had to check what all the fuss was about. I went on a Thursday night for dinner and the lines weren't too bad. At 7 pm, there was no line to get in and the wait for a table was about 15 to 20 minutes. Has anyone been on a Friday or Saturday night? I am curious to find out what the lines are like.
Left: Cheese burgers and fries - $14
Top right: Potato and gravy - $5
bottom right: Cheese burger
Say CHEESE!
Fried Chicken, half - $14
As soon as I had the first bite of my cheeseburger, ohemgee. I thought I had died and gone to burger heaven. It was so freaking delicious! I also loved the way they packaged their burgers even if it does remind me of fast food. Close your eyes and now imagine.. first your teeth sink into the soft bun then immediately comes a juicy beef pattie covered in melted cheese and finally getting a bit of the pickle as your top and bottom teeth meet. Deliciousness. This was probably one the best cheeseburgers I have had.
Adriano Zumbo Dessert Train, The Star
How could one go wrong with desserts by Zumbo especially his salted caramel macarons. Unfortunately, this is another place with queues but lines usually mean it is good right? The queues are about 20 minutes for a spot at the bar.
Lamington ice cream cake - approx $6
Blue cheese and date soft serve - $3
Jaffa chocolate tart - approx $6
Pistachio creme au caramel - approx $6
The soft serve flavour of the day was blue cheese and date. What on earth. I dislike cheese with a passion, especially blue cheese but DC lurves his cheese. With quite a bit of force from DC, I ended up trying some and zomgosh, it tasted nothing like blue cheese and date!?! I could actually say it was really good? The words good/delicious/yummy and cheese never fit into any of my sentences. I don't even know what it tasted like, I just recall it being really good. I would definitely come back just to find out what the rest of the daily flavours are.
Soooo that's a wrap guys! Hopefully this post will help give you some ideas on where to eat next and cheers to the end of another weekend!
Gotta go eat!!
