While attending a conference in Puerto Rico, the hotel was located next door to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Regional Airport. Among the regular air traffic are daily scheduled flights to neighbor islands conducted by Air Flamenco. First flown in 1965, the Islander is a light utility aircraft and regional airliner designed and originally manufactured by Britten-Norman in the United Kingdom with 1,280 produced. To keep up with demand, more than 500 of the type were manufactured in Romania by Intreprinderea de Reparatii Material Aeronautic (IRMA) and eventually IRMA became the primary manufacturing site for the Islander for some time. The Islander is still in production at the original UK plant. Sadly, Britten-Norman is now the sole independent commercial aircraft producer in the United Kingdom. Air Flamenco operates eight Islanders in their fleet.
