Brest is a congenial place to meet blessed peace, located in north-western France. Brest is the seaport and the naval base is located in the far western limit of Brittany. Brest has a proud maritime history. Porte Oceane opens France to the Atlantic Ocean and the Americas. In the midst of a majestic landscape, breathtaking beauty and splendid bays, Brest has everything for an important travel destination.

The reason why Brest has to struggle hard to emerge as a popular travel destination is because Brest was the navel base for the Germans in World War II; the port was home to major warships such as the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen warships, as well as the U-boats. Then the city was bombed by the liberation and Brest forces while the city was completely destroyed. It emerged from the ruins and today has more earned a reputation as a good travel destination.

The main travel spots in Brest are the Recouvrance Bridge (a huge 64m high drawbridge), the military arsenal and the rue de Siam (Siam Street). The castle and the Tanguy tour are the oldest monuments in Brest.

The rue de Siam (Siam Street) is the main street of Brest, every sailor who visits Brest remembers the rue de Siam (Siam Street). The naval base and industrial port are separated by the Penfield River at Rade de Brest (Brest Roads). Brest also houses a collection of works related to World War II, in the Museum of the Tour Tanguy, also exhibits Brest Maritime Traditions. Brest doesn't have much architecture because of the bombings of the Second World War, but a few kilometers outside the city, there are beautiful beaches, high granite cliffs.

The years will come and go, but Brest will always be known for its wartime history and maritime traditions.
