Warning: This is a rant and I feel like cussing on this post. Sorry Mom.
Ladies and gentlemen: I give you the shittiest news report of the week (I’m sure there will be more as time goes on). WBAL TV reported that the flawed Affordable Care Act rollout could be a touchy subject for gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown. Apparently, Anthony was one of the big wigs who bragged about the ACA and how it help many Americans and how he was highly involved in the Maryland Exchange. He helped bring about a big multimedia outreach campaign to educate people Marylanders about the health insurance exchange. He announced the establishment of the navigators network when it was formulating in April. He even made a video about the launch of the Maryland Health Exchange website and the importance of it for us citizens. He’s a Democrat supporting our Democrat President on one of the most important laws of our time. What the hell do you expect?
What pisses me off is the way the media is trying to spin this into a story of conspiracy where A. Brown and the rest of the Dems knew that the launch would be troubled and they kept it a secret. Reporter Jayne Miller asked “You know the president repeatedly said, ‘If you like your plan, you can keep it.’ Did you know that wasn’t true?” Yeah sure…he knew and kept it all to himself because he wanted to be the one to call ‘liar liar pants on fire’ in front of the world. It goes on to say
“What I knew is that there are plans that do not comply with provisions of the ACA,” Brown said.
“Did you think it might be prudent to tell the Maryland public that?” Miller asked.
“Well, I don’t want to speak on behalf of the president,” Brown said. “This really is the best I can do to answer your question: What we knew is that there is a group of Marylanders who had these inferior plans and our effort has been to make sure they have access to these better plans under the ACA.”
Great answer to a fucking moronic question. I get so sick of people finger pointing and accusing the Obama administration of planning to fail. No one plans to fail when you work as hard as he does to get where he is in life. He did the best he could. And yeah I am biased because I am a staunch supporter of the Affordable Care Act (Side note: I need that on a button to put on this blog). However, I am also realistic enough to think beyond the flaws. This is still a great piece of legislation and I am so glad it has come to fruition. I also believe that the President and A. Brown regret the promises that were made in haste before they knew how things would play out. Even the President himself said he wouldn’t have told people it’s going to be easy if he knew if it wouldn’t be. We all make mistakes or jump the gun a bit.
Finally, I think that now is the time to focus on how we’re gonna get past this and move on. The law is in the books. Wake the hell up and finish the race people. There are four ways to get enrolled: on-line, in person with a navigator, by mail, or by phone (24 hours a day). Let that website crashing shit go. It will get fixed. Do you need health care insurance or not? If so, be vigilant about shopping for the nest plan that will work for you and your family. Enroll anyway you can. I’m not discouraged by the numbers right now because guess what: health insurance shopping takes time and let’s be honest many people are procrastinators (not saying they’re bad because they procrastinate. Everyone has different priorities. Real talk). Check back in March and see how those numbers play out.
And if your current plan dropped you without offering you a new plan that does comply with the law, give them the middle finger and move on. Chances are they don’t want to lose your business and they will want to keep you on as a customer. A shrewd insurance company would already have great, ACA friendly plans lined up and ready to go instead sitting there with their thumbs up their asses saying ‘sucks to be you’. Thieving little bitches!
That’s the end of my rant and I am not sorry about one single syllable.
