Brasserie Dupont Foret Blanche

By I Think About Beer @ithinkaboutbeer

Foret Blanche is another of Brasserie Dupont‘s excellent beers.  Foret, as a labeled in the US, is part of their organic line of beers.  In Belgium, they label this beer as Blanche Du Hainaut Bio.  Created in 1999, this Belgian Wit/Blanche is Dupont’s interpretation of on a white wheat ale.

Foret Blanche is brewed with unmalted wheat, malted barley and the traditional blanche biere spices of Coriander and orange peel.  What makes this unique is Dupont’s house strain of yeast which adds a whole new level of depth and complexity to this beer.

Appearance: Hazy pale straw blonde, white head, solid retention.

Aroma: Earthy, yeasty, touches of coriander, bright citrus/orange notes, light funk notes, “Saison” aroma.

Taste: earthy, funky, mild sweetness, light wheat crispness/graininess.  Lightly tart.

Overall Impression: The mild CO2 is refreshing with a medium finish and a bit of an oily mouthfeel.  This is another excellent example of Dupont’s brewing prowess.  This isn’t a typical Wit beer by any means.  The addition of their house yeast takes the ingredients of a white wheat ale and makes this beer wholly original.  If you’re a fan of Belgian whites, you owe it to yourself to try this one out.  It’s complex, flavorful, interesting, and very tasty.  It’s refreshing enough for summer but robust enough for winter and with a wide range of food pairing options, including: salads with citrus, and most of the lighter fare that a Saison could handle, which is a pretty broad range.  If you’ve only tried Saison Dupont, you really need to try this one as well.  Brasserie Dupont is so much more than a one beer brewery.

Availability: Imported by Vanberg & Dewulf, look for it where you see Saison Dupont and if your favorite store doesn’t carry it, ask them to!

5.5% ABV
