My mind was just wrapping itself around ” oh crap I’m gonna have to have THAT talk” when she piped up with ” mom I want to kiss a boy in my class”.
Well, I sat up, put my paper down, looked at my partner who was trying desperately hard not to hunt this alleged boy down and I smiled. ” Kate, baby if you so much as try and stand near this boy before your 40 ill put you in a nunnery!” I said grinning while she pouted.
Seeing this wasn’t going to do it for her I proceeded to remind her of a previous chat when she was 6 that started off as a joke but has now lovingly become her steadfast parent rules, no disobeying allowed.
” Katie how old are you?”
” Ten mum”
” No your nine till May but we will ignore that. What are boys?”
” Boys are stupid mum”
” And what don’t we do till we are 21 at least?”
” Think about them ” she replied.
” Good, now how old did we agree to be before we kissed them?” I asked whilst my partner tried not to laugh
” 40 mum”
” Very well remembered. Now what will happen if you kiss a boy before your 40?”
Her dad put his hand up.
” Miss can I speak?” he asked.
I turned and gave him THAT look. He put his hand down.
” I will get put in a nunnery till such a time as you need caring for then ill have to be back living with you till you die!”
” That’s correct. Look at Rapunzel Kate. She kissed a boy. Her stepmum put her in a tower with only suduku for company
A quick elbow to my partners ribs stopped the laughter from his direction.
My Daughter looked at me.
” But mom..”
I smiled knowing I had won.
” yes?”
Kate looked at me.
” He said I am beautiful….”
My stupid romantic heart melted. She’s off to the nunnery in the morning.
