boygenius – the sadpop supergroup made up of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus – have shared the video of ‘Not Strong Enough’ ahead of the released of their debut album ‘the record’ on 31st March. They’ve also announced details of their first UK tour dates in Gunnersbury Park in London and Halifax’s Piece Hall.
The new song – accompanied by a video that finds the trio taking part in all kinds of fun, vacation-style activities together – finds the band talking about the dual nature of having a God complex and hating yourself for reasons unknown. There are elements of The National or Grandaddy in the potent and melodic sound while the lyrics are satisfyingly wry, relatable and self-depreciating: ‘I can’t stop staring at the ceiling fan and spinning out about things that haven’t happened’; ‘Drag racing through the canyon singing ‘Boys Don’t Cry”.
