Brooklyn’s Country Mice (@countrymice) invaded Mercury Lounge Tuesday night, getting the crowd moving with their form of reverb heavy, phychadelic, folk country-rock. Drawing parallels to Neil Young and the Allman brothers, these guys were playing like they had something to prove and ripped through their set with “The Ballad of John”, “Morning Son” and “Festival”. There was no lack of energy and they used everything on stage to produce their desired sound. From playing a guitar with the drummers cymbal to picking up and dropping the amp to get that serious grunge noise, Country Mice certainly brought a lot to the stage.
Fresh from their set at Lalapalloza, Boy & Bear (@boyandbear) represented Australians well, selling out the small club and showcasing their downunder, upbeat folk tunes. Their new album, Monnfire, released earlier that day, is already at #2 on the iTunes chart in Australia. The band enthusiastically played through the entire album for those fortunate enough to make it into the venue for the early show. Overall, a great way to start the evening.
