Based on the architecture of Agia Sophia, the Turkish mosques of Istanbul dot every view side of the city. If by chance minarets are out of your sight, five times per day muezzin prayers will remind you to bow down in prayer (aka “mosque”) towards the Mecca. Among the most beautiful mosques in Istanbul is Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the blue mosque famous for the blue tiles adorning the internal walls.
And Süleymaniye Mosque, a marvels melting pot of Islamic and Byzantine architecture facing the Bosporus. In both cases, no-Muslims are not allowed to access the praying floor. Still the visitor area is accessible for everybody without shoes, and with additional covered head for women.
