If you bought any computer equipment that had RAM between 1998 and 2002, you are entitled to a compensation ordered by the United States District Court For Northern District of California.

RAM manufacturers were sued for their anti-competitive behavior by artificially inflating the price of the goods. And we(the people) won! Big names like Samsung, Crucial, Hynix, NEC etc are involved in this case and the court settled for $310 million in 2014. Out of that $200 million was set aside to for individuals or businesses who purchased any product containing DRAM in those years. This also includes products which has DRAM i.e. computers, printers, video game consoles or other electronic devices.

On May 18th 2016, the court held a hearing for this lawsuit and approved the distribution plan. All eligible parties will start receiving their settlement checks from July 2016.

Now don't get super excited just yet, you are only entitled for a compensation check if you had submitted a timely and valid claim form for settlement. If you hadn't, then sorry. The deadlines for this have long gone.

The signed order of the Court can be read here.
