The first election round for the ApeCoin DAO was far from boring. In the last few seconds, a big change happened.
After an eight-week election process, the ApeCoin community chose BoredApeG, Veratheape, and Gerry to join Yat Siu and Alexis Ohanian on the Special Council in January 2023.
The ApeCoin DAO election came down to the wire as more people with $Ape showed up to vote and others changed their votes in the last few minutes. All of these things had a big effect on how the election turned out.
As the Bored Ape Gazette reported before 8:45 p.m. EST, Degentraland, a Metaverse Strategist at Horzien Labs and a member of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, was ahead of the other five candidates for the Special Council with 5.7 million $Ape votes.

But many people in the cryptocurrency field know that anything can happen.
At 8:49 p.m. EST, Degentraland went from being in first place with 5.7 million $Ape votes to fourth place with 4.4 million $Ape votes.
When the election results and Degentraland’s shocking loss were announced, Degentraland wrote on Twitter about the big upheaval at the end of the election and the shock of his loss.
He wrote that there is never a dull moment in cryptography. Please say congrats to the winners of the @apecoin council. All of you are going to do great. If you ever need help, I’m always here for you.
Many in the $Ape community blame DaoKwonDo AKA Books’ Web3 Exposed Twitter Space with Degentraland and the other candidates earlier today for the unexpected changes to the election.
At 1:48, Books told Degentralnd in the Space, “Nobody’s against you. “But where were you? A person is number one in votes, and we don’t even know who voted for him, which is fine. I understand this is crypto. But we all think its Horizen. There’s Horizen fingerprints all over this. Dude this is for the community. You haven’t been someone for the community. Again, ive heard you speak. It could have been on an ApeCoin Space or a Bored Ape space and besides that Alex’s spaces. I know you spoke on Farokh’s space because someone told me, and you confirmed. Other than that, I’ve been around for quite some time, and I don’t know you. And a lot of people on this stage don’t know you either.”

During the Space, many BAYC members talked about how Degentraland did on Twitter.
“Man, listening to Degentraland trying to justify why we should vote for him. Can’t even formulate a single coherent reason,” notable BAYC member Kobrakao said. “A lot of fluff, a lot of nothing. Do we really want this guy helping to run our community? Admits he’s too busy. HARD PASS. ANYONE else except him.”
