" It was Christmas Eve,that special night when magic can happen. In a house not too far away, a young girl named Clara sat beneath her Christmas tree, watching a rainbow of brightly dressed party guests shimmer and bob around her." So begins The Nutcracker, written by Emma Goldhawk and illustrated by Lisa Evans. This book was given as a birthday present to Defne and I must say that this is one of the most beautiful children's books I have seen.
We purposefully have not exposed Defne to any traditional fairy tales. Most of them contain scary elements plus I agree with the philosophy that young children need to understand the world around themselves rather than some . This book was our first fairy tale but it's not a scary fairy tale. The story is told beautifully and illustrations are just gorgeous.
What have you been reading and enjoying with your children lately? I would love it if you come and share with us. Feel free to grab my button (on the right hand side) and share the love.
