The Sentinels: The Sundering, Book V by Troy Denning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of The Sentinel through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.

The Sentinel is the fifth book of The Sundering series. In this book, the story centers around a city Watchman named Kleef Kenric. Kleef is a devoted watchman who believes in serving his duties to the utmost of his abilities as his father did before him and as his father's father did before. It seems he is the only one left who clings onto the teachings of the god Helm -- believed to be long dead.

While on duty in the city of Marsember, he notices a woman and her small companion -- Joelle and Malik -- being followed by Shades. Kleef then decides to help the woman and is able to kill a number of shades. As his battle with the Shades was ongoing, a lady named Arrieta tries to help him. It seems that the woman being chased, as is her companion, is a Chosen.

Joelle and Malik have managed to steal the Eye of Gruumsh and must take the Eye to Grumbar's Temple. The Shades are also after the Eye, and so are the Orcs. It seems that Joelle, Malik, Arrietta and Kenric must undertake the journey to Grumbar's Temple together and deliver the Eye so that the Gods will not leave Toril and cause the destruction of the world.

To be perfectly honest, I have enjoyed each and every single book within the Sundering series (at least those that have already by published). Though this book is a good read, I have to admit that it is not as intensely exciting as its predecessors. I am unable to connect with the characters as I have been able to with the earlier books.
