The Girl With the Cat Tattoo by Theresa Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There are just times when I feel like reading something light and enjoyable. This book definitely falls into those categories. The Girl With The Cat Tattoo is a quirky romance where a cat plays a matchmaker.

The first paragraph of the book says it all...

Max had been a cat as long as he could remember, but he was pretty sure he’d been a rock star in one of his previous lives. He just had that kind of cool about him.

Max is a loving cat who dreams of making his owner, Melody, happy. Melody is a widow -- her husband was a cop who got shot and killed two years ago. Being a children's librarian, she gets to read stories to children at the library during the day and tends to party a lot at night which often lead to her bringing home unsuitable men.

Max decides to help Melody find the right guy -- at least what Max believes the right guy for Melody should be. On his first journey beyond the backyard of Melody's home, he encounters a homeless man who leads him into a homeless shelter. It is there that Max meets Joe.

Joe was handing out soup in the shelter when he notices a cat looking at him. He decides to feed the cat and return it to its owner whose address is on the cat's collar. He is able to return the Max to a woman who gave him a cupcake in thanks. This leads to a friendship of sorts that begin to bloom into something more. But Max notices something in Joe's backpack -- a gun! Maybe Joe isn't the guy for Melody after all.

Theresa Weir writes a wonderful story with just the right amount of quirkiness, romance, mystery, and some humor to boot. Max's character is just so awesome. He is a cat who dreams of being able to make his mistress happy and if that means he has to find her the right mate, he will. He is also very smart and his insights regarding humans and how they behave makes for refreshing reading.
