“It Slices, It Dices!” The twin rotors of this CH-46E Sea Knight add to the blade collection at the Hiller Aviation Museum’s Vertical Challenge helicopter airshow. The CH-46 was designed by Vertol (formerly Piasecki Helicopter), a pioneer of tandem rotor helicopters, and manufactured by Boeing Vertol following Vertol’s acquisition by Boeing. The Sea Knight was operated by the Marines to provide all-weather, day-or-night assault transport of combat troops, supplies and equipment. In service from 1964-2015, the USMC CH-46 has now been replaced by the MV-22 Osprey. The US Navy retired their Sea Knights in 2004. Although production ended in 1971, Columbia Helicopters purchased the type certificate from Boeing in 2006 with the goal of producing new models. Nikon D300 w/18-200mm.
