A sharp-looking Stearman makes a low pass directly at the photographer during a trip to Arizona.  The Stearman name varies depending on the nation and military branch that flew them, most common being the PT-17 built for the U.S. Army Air Corps.  First flown in 1934, more than 10,000 of these iconic primary training aircraft would be produced in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934 and operated as a separate division until 1941 when it became the Wichita Division of Boeing.
