A tired looking Stratotanker, part of the collection at March Field Air Museum. This example was, at one point, the oldest operational tanker and was named “Ole Grandad”. This KC-135 was delivered in 1957 and served until retirement in 1992 and delivery to the Museum. The KC-135 type entered service with the United States Air Force in 1957 and is one of the few military aircraft with over 60 years of continuous service with its original operator. The KC-135 will be partially replaced by the Boeing 767-based KC-46 Pegasus.
