A JAL Boeing 787-9 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The 797-9 is the second variant of the 787 family which entered service in 2014. Keeping the same wingspan as the 787-8, the -9 was lengthened and strengthened with a 20 ft longer fuselage.  As of January 2023, 63% of all 787 orders are for the 787-9, with 580 deliveries.  Japan Airlines was the second operator of 787’s with service starting on April 22, 2012.  The JAL livery is called the tsurumaru or “crane circle.” It is an image of a Japanese red-crown crane with its wings extended in full flight.
