An El Al Dreamliner taxies to the gate after arrival at SFO. There are currently 15 Dreamliners in the El Al fleet, with the first on entering service in August 2017. Three of them are the 787-8 variant which was the base model of the 787 family and was the first to enter service in 2011. All of El Al’s aircraft are named for Israeli cities, with the names located near the nose of the plane beneath the cockpit windows. This one is named Ramat Hasharon. El Al is the only commercial airline to equip its planes with missile defense systems to protect its planes against surface-to-air missiles, and is considered one of the world’s safest airlines.  As of October 2019, approximately 29% of 787 orders are for the 787-8 with 366 delivered.
