Time is running out for seeing Qantas 747’s in use.  Seven remain in the Qantas fleet, slated to be replaced by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in 2020.  Qantas began operating the Boeing 747-200 in 1971. When their Boeing 707s were retired in 1979, Qantas became the world’s only all Boeing 747 operator (until 1985).  In 1989 a Qantas 747-400 flew a record-breaking nonstop flight from London to Sydney in 20:09 hours, a record that still stands.  With close to 700 produced (1988-2009), the 747-400 is the best-selling model of the Boeing 747 family of airliners.
