26-year-old Cristina Rovira has experienced living in different parts of the world: she moved to Germany to finish her studies in 2011, then to New York in 2013, and to Madrid a year later. Her very first post came out from Cologne, Germany, though her online adventure begun officially in 2013. Today, she is based in Barcelona, where she works on her blog while taking over personal shopping and online community management projects. On Medblick, you will find bits and pieces from everything Cristina is passionate about – decor, lifestyle, music, gastronomy and, above all, fashion!
What inspired you to start your own blog?
I really don’t know… I have always been into fashion. I have been collecting magazines, reading and studying about the industry. At the age of four, I used to walk in my grandma’s heels and go with her in jewelry auctions. Many people encouraged me to start a blog, but it wasn’t until I moved to Germany that I decided to go for it; my blog launched officially when I was living in New York. Perhaps being surrounded by different atmospheres and people, and being far from home made me decide to start blogging to talk about my point of view and maintain my Mediterranean character anywhere I was.
How important is the name of the blog?
I think it is crucial. Mine isn’t easy to get the meaning but, although I thought about changing it many times, it sums up the essence and main idea of the blog! It is a mix of English and German: “Med” for Mediterranean and “Blick” for my point of view. So, Medblick is a combination of how I (someone with Mediterranean origins and influence) understand fashion and trends.
How difficult is to find a blog niche?
It’s hard and you find it with time, patience and working hard. Your style grows day by day, but you need to create a unique image and personal identity that you should maintain always.
What is the best way to promote and grow your blog?
Social media has done so good. There are many different channels to reach your target readers. I do prefer Instagram over all, because I am a very visual person. But creating personal relationships and getting to know other bloggers, agencies and brands is just as important. This is the way to build strong partnerships, grow your blog and be known in the business as the person behind a blog.
What is your main audience and how did you reach out to them?
I do have many types of readers but I would say most of them are women between 25-40 years old. Most of them live in cities in Europe, South America and USA, and are “urban and cosmopolitan girls.” I have been living in different countries, and I got to reach the national audience first. But I have acquired a number of readers thanks to collaborations and brands I have worked with, fashion weeks I have attended, etc.
How important is it for your business to attend fashion week?
I think it is very helpful. You get to discover what will come next year, you are surrounded by the key players of the industry, and, if you happen to be featured in the media, you can boost your blog’s reputation and traffic. I experienced that last time I attended MBFW Madrid, when I was featured in publications such as Grazia, Vogue or Marie Claire.
What are the best tips for building long-term relationships and partnerships with brands?
Accepting only those partnerships that really fit into your blog and you feel comfortable with. Also, meeting with brands in real life to get to know each other better, and discuss each other’s interests and possible (new) ways to work together.
What is the biggest challenge about running a blog?
Maintaining motivation and working hard every day to improve your content and imagery.
What advice would give to anyone looking to start a blog today?
To make sure they will have time to upload and publish quality content, be passionate about your blog and be patient.
What are your ultimate plans for your blog/blogging career?
I am going to take few months to work exclusively in the blog. I didn’t have much time to dedicate to it, and now I am happy to be able to focus on Medblick, run new partnerships, attend fashion weeks and take the blog one step further.
