Story: Blue Beetle starts when Jaime Reyes (Mariduena) returns home after graduating, only to find his family has fallen on hard times. He decides to stay with his parents Alberto (Alcazar), Rocio (Carrillo), Uncle Rudy (Lopez), sister Milagro (Escobedo) and Nana (Barraza). However, he ends up working for Victoria Kord (Sarandon) an arms manufacturer, only to get himself fired.
This leads him to meet the daughter of the company Victoria runs, Jennifer (Marquezine) who offers him a job. However, he must start by hiding a piece of weaponry that ends up getting attached to him. This turns him into the Blue Beetle and now Victoria wants the code to build her own army of beetles that she can control.
Verdict on Blue Beetle
Blue Beetle is an action-adventure movie following a young man who gets infected by alien technology that turns him into a superhero. This attracts the attention of the original owner who has been trying to crack the code. He must fight back to protect his family against a relentless figure.
This is a fun movie with a core feeling that everything relies on family. It gives us a brief origin story, dealing with the changes the young man goes through. There is plenty of heart in the movie and it keeps everything contained between the two sides, rather than anything bigger in the world. For a stand-alone movie, this feels fresher than most of the over-connected movies we have at the moment. The performances are strong and overall, you can just enjoy this one.
Final Thoughts –Blue Beetle is a fun, enjoyable action-adventure movie.
