DIY isn’t for everyone. I totally get it. Three years ago, I would have NEVER blogged about DIY gift ideas this holiday season. I guess when you really have no other options, though, you learn to make it work. Plus, my patience isn’t as thin as it was when I was studying my undergraduate degree. Moving on… today I am sharing an under $50 gift guide for the best guys in your life. I will list five ideas simply by category, then at the end, I will share five specific under $50 gifts to consider this season. Let’s get started!
Under $50 Gift Guide for Men
- Video games or game accessories are a great gift for the gamer guy in your life. My husband loves playing video games, so I got him Titan Fall 2 this holiday season (which he has already opened because he is impatient, lol). As for accessories, I also gifted him a gaming headset. Now, I recommend making sure the recipient is not picky. I know several men who would be disappointed with a headset under $50 haha. David is pretty frugal and understands our financial situation. There are great accessories under $50, though. Do a little research. Click here for help in this area!

Sporting gear is another awesome option for the athletic dude. Sporting gear can range from exercise equipment to a hat with their favorite sports team’s logo on it. Visit your local Walmart, Target, or Modells and check out the clearance section. Out of season sports gear is always marked down. Since baseball season is over, I got several guys in my life Nationals shirts and hats. All for under $10. I even got my nephew a Nationals track suit for $8… not kidding. My biggest tip when shopping for sports gear is to be a little stingy. If the cost of a new football seems too high, it probably is. Check out websites like PriceGrabber.com and Slickdeals.net to find the best price/deals for specific products.
- Clothing may be the easy way out, but people can always use an updated wardrobe. My favorite way to give new clothes is with a note that reads, “This holiday, choose three old pieces of clothing you no longer wear, and update your closet with these new threads. A gift for you and a gift for someone less fortunate than us. Happy Holidays.” You can change that message to fit your recipient. For example,I usually update the number of clothes to donate based on how many pieces I gift a person. If I give David four new Star Wars shirts, I will ask him to choose four shirts to donate. An exchange that is helping others! The men in my life always need new socks, undershirts, and boxers. I try to give them one wardrobe under $50 or hook them up with a load of basics that can be worn often.

Tools can often be expensive, but this time of year, stores like Home Depot and Walmart boast some amazing deals. For the handy man in your life, gift him with a new tool belt, a nice hammer, or a nice swiss army knife. There are many options in the tools department. Consider asking your local Home Depot what they recommend for that guy in your life. David uses tools regularly on the job, so I try to treat him with new nails, extension cords, and even a sturdy tool bag if his old one needs to be replaced.
- Drink/Beer accessories are usually a hit with most guys I know. Grab a six pack of his favorite beverage, a cool beer bottle opener, and some Pilsner glasses for an easy, under $50, holiday present. You can adjust this gift for the type of drink your recipient prefers. If he is a scotch lover, you can get a pretty good scotch for under $50. Granted, it may not be the best scotch he has ever had, but that doesn’t mean he won’t appreciate it. If you can’t purchase alcohol (or prefer not to), purchase a nice flask, glassware, or even whisky stones to keep his drink ice cold.
Now, on to the specific gift ideas. Here are five gifts I recommend purchasing your favorite men this holiday season:
- Single-Person Adventure Hammock – For only $30 you can treat that outdoorsy guy in your life with something AWESOME. This hammock is compact, light, and great for any guy (or gal) who loves to hike. I actually put this on my Christmas list this year!

- Spiegelau Tasting Kit Craft Beer Glass Kit – My brother is a craft beer lover. This gift is similar to one I purchased for him last Christmas but cheaper coming in at approximately $30. Each glass is meant for different types of beers. The three pack contains a Stout glass, an IPA glass, and a Witbier glass. Add a variety six pack to this gift and you are ready to go!

- Magnetic Wristbands – The handy man will love having this magnetic wristband to hold his metal items while working. When David is using nails, he always asks me to hold them for him. Instead, you can let the wristband do the work for you. Tools can be kept close without having to ask someone else for assistance. Plus, you can get a set of two for only $20. Add the remaining $30 to a gift card so he can get whatever nails he needs for his next project.

- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – This game is currently on sale at Walmart for a great price of $40. If I didn’t get David Titan Fall 2, I would have purchased this game or possibly Fifa ’17. Choose a game you know your recipient will love. If you have to, ask them what games they are most looking forward to playing this year. Another great idea is to find what game is coming soon and pre-order it for them! Talk about an awesome holiday present for a gamer…

- Ties & Tie Bar – Some of my favorite guys are always looking for new work attire. I can’t buy them a new suit, but I can buy them nice ties and a tie bar to go with it. I recommend staying conservative with your tie choices unless you know for sure goofy ties are acceptable in his particular workplace. A gag tie is fun, but you definitely don’t want him paying for it when his boss isn’t laughing!
