Verdict on Blockbuster

Blockbuster is a short comedy following a practical effects-obsessed director Abel (Walther). He dreams of making the next greatest special effects sequence with his limited budget. However, his dreams take an extremely dark turn, when he looks to put into practice his latest project.

This is a fascinating movie despite only being 10 minutes long. It shows how obsession can take a dangerous turn and perfection can create even bigger problems. We could easily put this into the very niche grouping of a movie about making movies. Even if this is more about not understanding the boundaries between making a movie and real life. Luiz Gomide Walther is a delight to watch, with his ever-maddening character taking over.

As with most short movies, I always like to point out whether I believe they could be a full feature. This is 100% a movie I think would be an amazing full feature to watch and I hope one day we can return to see what Abel does next.

Final Thoughts Blockbuster is a devilish journey into creative freedom.
