Blizzard has cancelled its next-gen MMO Titan.
The game had been in development at the studio for 7 years and was expected to be the successor to World of Warcraft. Blizzard says it cancelled the MMO after it failed to "find the fun".
"We had created World of Warcraft, and we felt really confident that we knew how to make MMOs," Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime told Polygon. "So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together.
"We didn't find the fun. We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a re-evaluation period, and actually, what we re-evaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."
"It's always really, really hard to make those kind of decisions," added Blizzard's SVP of story and franchise development Chris Metzen. "It was hard when we cancelled Warcraft Adventures. It was hard when we cancelled StarCraft Ghost. But it has always resulted in better-quality work."
Little is known about the 'officially' unannounced MMO besides the fact that Activision was aiming for a "more broad appeal" than World of Warcraft. Morhaime has previously said that the MMO was "unlikely to be subscription based".
Blizzard is also expected to be working Starcraft 2 expansion Legacy of the Void and MOBA Heroes of the Storm.
"I wouldn't say no to ever doing an MMO again," added Morhaime. "But I can say that right now, that's not where we want to be spending our time."
