Blindsided by James M Copeland is a Kg publication, released in 2013. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Set in Gallatin, Tennessee, Frank Hawthorne, private detective attends a seminar and meets the owner of Fisher Granary and his son. W.J. Fisher had turned the business over to his son Milford. But, when Milford goes missing and it's obvious foul play is involved, W.J. remembered meeting Frank at the seminar and calls him in the investigate.
Frank discovers quickly that all is not well at the Granary. He has the feeling that Milford may be injured, but he thinks Milford is still alive, they just need to find him. In the meantime he wants people to believe Milford is dead.
Frank also has the pleasure of meeting W.J.'s daughter, Marylyn. To say he is smitten was an understatement. But, before any romance has a chance to bloom, Marylyn goes missing as well.
Blindsided is a character driven thriller. There is lots of action and plot twist, but the author tends to lean more on the relationships between the characters. To say those relationships were complicated would be putting it mildly. This may be one of the most emotionally charged cases Frank has ever worked, or will work.
I enjoyed reading the romantic elements from a male perspective that showed respect toward women, and how the focus remained on the plot and the effect events had on those involved in the case.
I would recommend this book to mystery/suspense/thriller lovers in general. For those of you that like to know these things, the book had very mild language, the violence was not graphic and there was no explicit sexual content.
Over all I give this one an A.
