What would you do... if you inherited a multi-million-dollar estate in a place you'd never been to and from a person you didn't know? When Ellen Williams is contacted by a Brunswick, Georgia, attorney and informed that she is the beneficiary of a 7.8-million-dollar estate left to her by his wealthy deceased client, Madeline Caldwell, she's beyond shocked. Especially when this wealthy widow leaves a photograph of Ellen as proof that she is the intended beneficiary. This fortuitous event has come at a time when Ellen is struggling with decisions regarding her own direction in life. A gift of this magnitude requires answers and getting out of Louisville for a while is just what she needs. She sets out with her companion, Lilly, her three-year old retriever on a journey to Brunswick, Georgia, and the Caldwell Estate. In her quest to find answers, Ellen will reach out to Madeline's friends, family, and acquaintances, only to discover that this Brunswick socialite and wife of a prominent judge was not only a mystery to her, but a mystery to many who knew her. With each step closer, painful childhood memories begin to emerge of her sister Jenny, a horrifying night in the past, and of Bird. Finding the truth has a price.

The lovely cover made me want to read this book. I'm so glad that I did. I'm fan of books that use a first person POV and this works really well here. This is well-written and completely engaging. I was pulled into the story and really enjoyed my journey. I knew I was going to have a good time with this book because I felt so connected to the character's and world, they felt real. The premise is intriguing, just how did Ellen end up inheriting land and a house in a place she's not aware of having any connection to? I really wanted to know, and the book kept me guessing. I'd read more by the author.
