Billet-Doux: Is the love you feel equal to the love you give? If a bundle of letters neatly tied together with a ribbon, or a strand of leather was found by some treasure hunter in an old trunk. And that trunk was hidden in a dusty corner of a basement in a secondhand store, and they proceeded to read them. What if those letters contained the correspondence between you and your true love, what would they discover?

If you are a woman reading this, I’m sure you would envision those letters would be filled with romance and sweetness of the most gentle kind.

If you are a man reading this, and depending on your upbringing, you probably would say, “I’m sure they were lovey-dovey, but then again I’m not very good at writing that sort of stuff.”

We each have our own interpretation of the love letters we would write. And in this day and age, there virtually is no one writing them anymore. We often uncover romantic letters when we go through a loved one’s belongings, when they have passed away. We develop a new understanding of who they really were as a person, and how they felt when they wrote to the love of their life.

I suggest we all try to craft an actual written letter, make it a love letter to someone you truly care about. There is a beautiful word called compassion. This is a word that should go hand-in-hand with the word love. Compassion is a form of sympathy and understanding concerning how we respect and/or in many cases feel sorry for another person. But what if the word compassion was replaced by two words, unconditional love.

It’s not for me to say or judge, but if we all think about it, there seems to be a lot less love,, and for that matter a lot less compassion in the world today. Write a love letter. Take it to a post office, add the necessary stamps and mail that letter. Even if it’s addressed to someone that has the same address as you. Do it! And you will be surprised at what a remarkable change will take place in you.

“Love is everywhere, and that everywhere should be in your heart.”
