I stand, or perhaps , quiver is a better word, in the implied criticism of the good Doctor 'Theodore Dalrymple' who in Taki's Mag shakes a stern finger of rebuke at examples of bile in the blogosphere. Am I, I wonder, guilty of, er, 'bileness' - or should that be 'bilecosity'? I'm not sure because it is so difficult to judge one's self. I like to think I am merely grumpy - on an occasional basis - and any 'bileness' is entirely the fault of those mad enough to disagree with my carefully constructed and irrefutable arguments! Mind you, that doesn't happen too often these days. The crackpot Lefties who used to hurl themselves upon my fixed bayonets 'back in the day' have all departed and the comment columns today are filled with ladies and gentlemen more or less of my view - the exception being, of course, 'SoD' but then he's been cantankerous since he was 6 minutes old, takes after his mother, you know! Also, to be fair, most of my commenters, even when they dare to demur (bloody cheek!), do so whilst always remembering toujours la politesse!
But, as the Doc reminds us, to bring forth a really rancorous stream of ultra-bile you need the right subject matter and with his usual pin-point accuracy he spots exactly the right one - 'Jilly the Giraffe':
Yes, alright, alright, his real name was Marius but I do like a bit of alliteration and changing his sex makes the whole thing so much softer and soppier and therefore capable of producing rivers of bile - as it did, apparently, in The Graun. You will remember - oh, no, don't say you've forgotten, you hard, vile giraffiste, you! - that 'Jilly/Marius' was resident in a Danish zoo and being surplus to requirements was shot, chopped up and fed to the lions - not that it did them much good because a few days later they too were despatched to that 'Great Savannah in the Sky'! Cue: oceans of vintage bile in The Graun's commentary as sense and sensibility went to war.
Perhaps you have all grown bored with me putting my 'bovver' boots into 'Dim Dave', 'ol Big Ears' and the rest of them, and what you are really looking for is a red-hot issue which will trigger your bile release mechanism. I'll see what I can do!
