Big Ups – “Wool”

At Brooklyn DIY space 285 Kent last week, New York’s own Big Ups delivered a totally thrilling, maniacal set, and served the most impressive hardcore sounds that CMJ had to offer. Singer Joe Galarraga is a maddening frontman, wrapping his mic cord around his throat and crawling down into the crowd, staring each person down in a threatening, yet completely captivating, manner. “Wool” is Big Ups’ latest track, which Galarraga introduced as one of the band’s “sad” songs; regardless, the track is a melodic, thoughtful slow-burn, twisting and weaving its way towards a satisfying, shrieking finish.
