Big John Bates w/ Koopa & Los Mysterio, The Hay Shakers

By Urbanmatter Chicago @UMatterChicago

Big John Bates from Vancouver BC are touring their new album, From the Bestiary to the Leathering Room (2015). Big John Bates travels under the guitarist’s name, but their sound is Americana Noir and its shaped by the entire group. The album was written and sung by (Montana’s own), the dynamic arco-upright bassist Brandy Bones & eclectic guitarist Big John Bates and recorded on board their boat Caleuche.

The lyrics have her Western Montanan resonance and his Southern Ontario Gothic style with themes that include religious imagery, death, addiction, betrayal and moral hypocrisy. They craft their symphonic rock’n’roll in a Cascadian setting – and reveal the dark places.

They’ll be sharing the stage with Chicago’s own Koopa & Los Mysterio and The Hayshakers.
