How To Increase FPS In Fortnite Battle Royale/Save The World – Epic Games’ Fortnite needs no introduction. As of March 2019, with 250 million registered accounts, it’s the ninth most played game of all time. We see it climbing up the ranking in the near future.

If you’re reading this guide, you’re probably a new Fortnite player or you’ve upgraded your rig or bought a new one entirely.

Whether you’ve purchased and plan on playing Fortnite Save the World or Fortnite Battle Royale, you probably want to have the best settings to get the most out of your gaming experience. That’s why we’re here.

Fortnite doesn’t require much to run, but you might want to fine tune it, especially if you’re playing Battle Royale. You don’t want to lose or die because of a sudden frame rate drop or lag. This guide should help decide what the best possible settings are for your rig.

Fortnite System Requirements – Can Your PC Run Fortnite?

Before deciding what the best settings are for your rig, you have to find out if your rig can actually run Fortnite. While Fortnite isn’t particularly stringent on system resources, it’s important to know what minimum and recommended requirements it demands.

Minimum Requirements

According to Epic’s official site, these are the minimum system requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit; Mac OSX Sierra
  • Hard Drive Space: 15 GB
  • CPU: Core i3 2.4 GHz
  • CPU SPEED: Info
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • VIDEO CARD: Intel HD 4000
  • PIXEL SHADER:0
  • VERTEX SHADER:0

*Note: Mac computers must support Metal API

Recommended Requirements

While the previous specs will be enough to run the game, they probably won’t get you the best gaming experience out of it. The following are the official recommended system requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit; Mac OSX Sierra
  • Hard Drive Space: 20 GB
  • CPU: Core i5 2.8 GHz
  • CPU SPEED: Info

  • VIDEO CARD: Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU
  • PIXEL SHADER:0
  • VERTEX SHADER:0
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2048 MB

If you have a computer better and or in-between, this guide will be helpful to you. But if your computer is somehow below par, then please upgrade it before even trying to follow the tips in this guide.

Optimize Your PC Settings

If you’re satisfied with your PC’s ability to run Fortnite, you need to tweak its settings in preparation. If you’re running Fortnite from a laptop, make sure that your laptop is connected to a power outlet for the best possible performance.

If you’re running your laptop from its battery, make sure the batter mode is on ‘High Performance’. It’s also important to ensure that you have the latest Windows updates installed. In addition to this, you also have to ensure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed.

Nvidia Graphics Card Settings:

  1. Run the NVidia Control Panel
  2. Once you have Nvidia Control Panel opened, click on Manage 3D Settings. It can be found on the left panel underneath the 3D Settings category. It should be the second option on the menu.
  3. Click on the tab Program Settings and find Fortnite. If you can’t find it in the menu, you’re going to have to add it manually by clicking on the ‘Add’ button. If you still can’t find it, try running the game and closing it and then trying to find it again.
  4. Set Fortnites Program Settings to the following:
    • Maximum pre-rendered frames: 1
    • Monitor Technology: G-sync (if applicable)
    • Multi-Display/Mixed GPU Acceleration: Single display performance mode
    • Power Management Mode: Prefer maximum performance
    • Texture Filtering – Quality: Performance
    • Vertical Sync: Disabled
    • Threaded Optimization: Enabled
    • Preferred Refresh Rate: Set it to the highest possible value
  5. Once you’ve done setting these values, apply the changes and then click on Adjust desktop size and position under the Task panel on the left. You should find this item under the Display category (it’s the fifth option).
  6. Once you have it opened, enable the ‘Override the scaling mode set by games and programs’ setting, then click on Apply.

Disabling Mouse Acceleration:

Mouse Acceleration is a mouse setting that may hinder your gaming experience. It can make your in-game character’s movements a little inconsistent and may decrease accuracy. By switching Mouse Acceleration off you may also improve your muscle memory.

First, you need to find the mouse settings. These steps are for Windows 7 and upwards:

  1. Run Windows Control Panel
  2. Click on Hardware and Sound
  3. Select Devices and Printers
  4. Underneath the ‘Devices’ section, click on your mouse in the “Devices” section

Once you’ve found your mouse settings, you need to set the mouse acceleration options by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Pointer Options
  2. The topmost section is the Motion Under this section, there’s a checkbox titled ‘Enhance pointer precision’. Uncheck this check box.
  3. Click OK to apply your changes and close the Properties dialog.

Disabling Windows Update Delivery Optimization

Windows Update Delivery Optimization may negatively impact your PC’s performance. It may take up unnecessary bandwidth while running in the background. It will also up space in your computer’s RAM.

To disable it or minimize the impact it has on system resources, follow these steps:

  1. The quickest way to find Window Update Settings is by using the search function in your start menu. Open start, then type Windows Update Settings. Click on the first search result.
  2. Once the Windows Update Settings window is open, select Advanced Options.
  3. Under Advanced options, select Delivery Optimization.
  4. From here, you need to ensure that the ‘Allow downloads from other PCs’ is disabled (set to off).

Close OneDrive

OneDrive is another service that will run in the background and take up unnecessary memory and bandwidth. You need to close OneDrive when you’re not using it.

  1. Right-Click on the OneDrive icon on your taskbar
  2. Click on ‘Exit’ from the context menu

Alternatively, you can uninstall and completely disable OneDrive if you’re not using it. This can be done under the Apps and Features Windows Settings.

Optimize Battle Royale Game Settings

Once you’re done optimizing and preparing your PC to run Fortnite, you need to optimize Fortnite’s in-game settings. To optimize Fortnite’s game settings, you need to do the following:

  1. Open Fortnite and select ‘Battle Royale’ from the launch window.
  2. Navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu by clicking on the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right-hand corner of the screen and then clicking on the gear icon.
  3. Once you have the Settings menu opened, adjust the following setting:
    • Set the Window Mode to Fullscreen.
    • Set the Frame Rate Limit to Unlimited
    • 3D Resolution should be set to 100.0%.
    • View Distance should be set to Epic. If you want to increase your overall performance, you can set this setting to a lower option.
    • Shadows: Off
    • Anti-Aliasing: Off
    • Textures: Medium
Note: This option can be set according to your PC’s performance and your own preference. If you’re getting great FPS rates, then you can increase this setting. However, if your Frame rates suck, then we suggest that you decrease this setting.
    • Effects: Low
    • Post Processing: Low
    • Vsync: Off
    • Motion Blur: Off
  4. Once you’re satisfied with your settings, save them and restart Fortnite

  1. Run Discord and navigate to ‘User Settings
  2. From the User Setting page, click on the Appearance tab and disable ‘Hardware Acceleration
