So I am not really sure how I went until almost my late twenties without ever having Sangria, actually I never even knew what it was until one of my good friends made it for a party. I tried it, loved it, and well, as they say, the rest is history…..
The heat over here in “these parts” {which you all know I have been complaining about for the last month}, inspired me to make Sangria for the first time, because I wanted something cold and refreshing to take over to a friends house…. I had an idea of what I wanted to put into it but I was unsure of how it would taste. Apparently not being able to taste the alcohol is the key to a good Sangria recipe.
Well mission accomplished. Seriously amazing. You have got to try it yourself. Perfect for an afternoon picnic with your significant other, or a BBQ with friends this Labor Day Weekend. Enjoy.
Ingredients:
1 bottle merlot (can use cabernet or zinfandel)
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries
2-3 Tablespoons sugar
2 shots Gin or Triple Sec
1 Can of Diet Orange Lime Hansens soda
Hop to it:
Combine wine, lemon slices, orange slices, sugar and gin into a pitcher. Muddle with the back of a large spoon to get the fruit to release some of its juice, and to dissolve the sugar. Put into the fridge. Just before serving, stir in soda. Serve over ice and remaining fruit.
Now Get Drinkin’.
